What is Ayurveda? How can it Support my Healing Process?

Health is a holistic equation. There is no aspect of one’s life that doesn’t contribute to their overall state-of-being. Diet, Lifestyle, Exercise, Sleep, Relationships, Spiritual or Creative Practices, Environmental Quality, Substance Use, etc. collectively make up one’s health. Each component either affirms or degrades in some way.

Unfortunately, our modern civilization berets the health of its people from nearly all fronts. Whether it be the atrocities of a Standard American Diet (SAD); Unrelenting Stress from working long hours; Constantly being Plugged-In and staring at Screens; Breathing in Polluted Air, drinking Poor Water, and exposure to Light and Noise Pollution; Or the flood of Sex, Alcohol, Violence, and Fast Food Advertisements; it seems that our Modern World is determined to make us sick. Even modern medicine has a knack for creating new problems in their efforts to solve another.

It’s very rare for someone to achieve mastery over all areas of life. If someone claims to have accomplished such a feat, you can jestingly remind them that ‘Satya’ or honesty is also one of the components of perfect health. To be ‘Healthy’ by today’s standards usually means that someone is achieving some success in some of the aforementioned areas. Maybe someone is ‘Healthy’ because they exercise and have a fit body, but can they really be considered healthy if they still smoke and drink alcohol? Another may eat a meticulous diet and also achieve relative health. However, can they truly claim to be healthy if they don’t exercise or manage their stress? Remember, health is not merely the absence of disease but a state of Vibrancy, Clarity, and Vigor. If you don’t subjectively feel well, then some part of you must be unwell!

Ayurveda is the original holistic medical system. Today, it is one of the few systems that treats the entire person. Body, Mind, and Spirit. The Physical as well as the Mental and Emotional. This is important because the Mental and Emotional are simply Precursors to the physical. Physical health is Mental/Emotional health revealed: One becomes what they regularly do, and one does what they regularly think and feel. You cannot treat one without affecting the other.

Ayurveda works patiently, appreciating that changing one’s health paradigm never happens overnight. Making drastic changes can even be experienced as shock or trauma to the body, causing increased instability. Instead, consistently concerted effort geared towards bringing balance back to each area of life is The Real Path to Wellness.

Aligning with Ayurveda means to align with the science that has spent the past 5,000 years perfecting this art of living in health and harmony. It means to align with the science that believes in you and your capacity to heal. And, most importantly, Ayurveda gives you the tools to actually achieve it.

Ayurveda also recognizes that healing is not easy, comfortable, nor convenient. If it was, you probably would have already done it! The most important factor in any healing process is the will and fortitude to endure the process of changing habit patterns and letting go of attachments. This is because no matter how good your doctor, practitioner, or therapist is, only you can heal you. Many can be supportive, but no one else can do it for you.

If you are ready for this change, to actually do it, well, then there is no better choice than Pancha Karma, or an Ayurvedic Cleanse. This 10 day cleanse is Ayurveda’s Champion, and what distinguishes Ayurveda from every other healing modality.
